Pentagon unveils cybersecurity guidelines
July-14-2011--A top Pentagon official has admitted that a massive amount of data related to new defence technologies were hacked earlier this year. 
The revelation came as the defence department unveiled its new guidelines for dealing with threats in cyberspace. 
But critics say the new strategy doesn't have enough bite to counter those types of breaches, much less the ones that could potentially cripple a nation. 
With hackers trying millions of times each day to breech defence networks, it has to be seen whether Washington has the political will to take more aggressive measures to protect its most sensitive secrets.

July-13-2011--WASHINGTON - Moody's Investors Service is threatening to lower the United States' credit rating, saying there is a small but rising risk that the government will default on its debt. The credit rating agency said it will review the federal government's triple-A bond rating because the White House and Congress are running out of time to raise the nation's $14.3 trillion borrowing limit and avoid a default.

July-13-2011--Gold surged to a new record on Wednesday, propelled by the possibility of a third round of quantitative easing in the US. The yellow metal, already rallying hard on the back of fiscal concerns in the eurozone, jumped to within

reach of $1,600 a troy ounce after Ben Bernanke, Federal Reserve chairman, said the central bank could take further steps to prop up the US economy if needed.

In testimony to Congress, Mr Bernanke said the Federal Reserve stood ready to provide “additional policy support” if the economy remained weak.

Starting Aug. 1, the Federal Housing Administration will require lenders to extend the forbearance period for unemployed to 12 months, up from 90 days. The adjustment, under the Making Home Affordable Program, will provide much-needed assistance for unemployed homeowners trying to stay in their homes while seeking re-employment. “The Obama administration is taking a positive step to stand with the unemployed to give them a chance to save their homes through this 12-month forbearance policy,”

Is Assad losing Syria?

As concerns grow, US urges halt to 'intimidation.'

July-05-2011--A realization appears to be growing in the West and the Middle East that Assad's regime is falling apart amid its crackdown on dissent. With the Assad regime’s forces encircling the opposition stronghold of Hama Tuesday and reported to have caused at least six more civilian deaths there, the State Department said the US is “very concerned” about continuing and spreading violence that is taking Syria “in the wrong direction.”

The US is urging the Syrian government to “immediately halt its intimidation and arrest campaign”
